MK Electric

MK Electric is a company that manufactures an assortment of electrical accessories and products, with headquarters in Basildon, Essex, England. At We Sell Electrical, we offer the latest MK Electric products including double pole plate switches, outlet front plates, moulded single switches and surface mounting boxes.

Historical Background

The story of MK Electric began in 1912 when Charles Arnold and Charles Belling put together Belling and Company, a company that manufactured electric fires. After spending time in the Army, Arnold got released in 1919 and established MK Electric, although its original name was The Heavy Current Electrical Accessories Company.

The new company began to manufacture various sockets and switches, but it was the Multy Kontact 3 pin plug spring grip socket that made it famous. The Multy Kontact socket became very popular, so much so the British Engineering Standards Association (BESA) had to modify its standards to accommodate the product’s widespread use. It was also the high demand for Multy Kontact that led to the company being renamed after it in 1923.

After the War

During World War II, production was focused on munitions to help the government, but after the war, work on electrical accessories and supplies was resumed. One of the highlights during the 1950s was the development of a light switch, a design that was so innovative it is still used today.

In 1966, MK Electric became part of Honeywell International, and this led to even greater expansion and development. Under Honeywell, all MK Electric products continue to be manufactured so they conform with the needs of modern interiors, providing full functionality while remaining unobtrusive.

While MK Electric continues to manufacture various electrical accessories, they all share some common aspects, such as exceeding the standards set by the British Standard as well as having patented safety features built-in.
